Welcome to MORROIS (Mapping of Romance Realms and Other Imagined Spaces).

MORROIS is an index of line-by-line instance of place names in Middle English romances; all explicit references to any distinct place (whether noun, adjective, or other derived form) are catalogued.

This prototype platform features all place names found in the Alliterative Morte Arthure, an early fifteenth-century romance uniquely recorded in the Lincoln Thornton manuscript (Lincoln Cathedral Library, MS 91) by copyist and compiler Robert Thornton (fl. 1418 – 1456).

Links to the text (off-site), index, and a map of place names can be found at the top and bottom of each page.
